In Snap Me, 20231 LIKES the spectators are taken as far as likes are worth, while Noora Hannula and her co-dancer Pietari Kärki create images that illustrate that reality is not always, what we are trying to manufacture it to be and show how much the currency of likes talks to us.

With the video art of Samira Elagoz (Nominated for Cph DOX* award 2017) bombarding the stage and live music of Julius Sylvest accompanying the actions of the dancers we see the revealing poetry of our time undress in front of us while the two characters reflect on the selfie culture and online phenomena that are the consequences when combined with a race for likes.

They comment, on the thin border between private and public, objectification, self-promotion and the aesthetic values of edited reality.

“To explore the power of self editing and the affects of collecting likes we created alter egos @fuck_my_fashion and @pietaku_kochebi. As those characters we have pushed our selves to be the most social media optimal versions of our selves that we could be. We were especially intrigued in online encounters and the questions concerning the ownership of one's online-self. We systematically reached out to new online contacts, exchanged likes and follows with flattering comments and empty emojis, to find out exactly how to get most value to our online images. Now we will push our selves to show how that was.”

The show targets a vast audience from teenagers to their parents. It opens up discussions about these real platforms that take up space and time in our lives while being an abstract reality living in our pockets.

The language of the performance is English.

"I think SNAP ME, 20231 LIKES is fantastic and so relevant. It contains everything from barely dressed dancers, twerking, and selfies to wildly professional people who know what they are doing!"
